I like to study foreign languages; I can use 3 languages, although all of them are not perfect. My mother tongue is Japanese, while English and Mandarin are acquired languages. Although Japanese is my mother tongue, sometimes I make mistakes. I also think I need to learn more words. Every time I learn a new language, I feel I have to improve my mother tongue, because acquired language ability usually cannot surpass mother tongue ability. Thus, I think it is very important to learn the first language well. Some Japanese parents want their children to learn English from a very young age. I think they believe children learn English more easily. Maybe it is true, maybe not. I am not so keen into pushing my baby to learn foreign languages; I want to let her learn things other than language because they might be more meaningful.
